Designed by PGA Tour Professional Tom Kite in collaboration with Bruce A. Besse, Jr., Coco Beach offers four unique and challenging Nines – The Lakes, The Ocean, The Mountain and The Palms.
And, with four sets of tees and yardages from 5,594 to 7,587, we offer the perfect challenge for every level of player.
What’s more, we know when your ball lands in one of our bunkers you will appreciate our new state-of-the-art bunkers with imported white silica sand (the first in Puerto Rico) and the newest drainage systems. We already have 20 holes completed and have just 16 to go.
Prior to your round, be sure to warm up at Coco Beach’s complete practice facility which includes two putting greens, chipping area, practice bunkers and driving range.
Whether you’re carrying the water on the Lakes, teeing off from 50 feet above sea level on the Mountain, navigating your approach through the Palms or guiding your ball through the breezes on the Ocean, Coco Beach will provide you with a golf experience that’s second to none.
Below is a closer look at The Nines @ Coco Beach.
The Lakes
The Lakes Nine intricately weaves its way around eight manmade lakes making for a beautiful and challenging nine holes. This nine puts emphasis on your putter as the greens are large and undulating.
Lakes #6 is a 195-yard Par 3 with the beautiful El Yunque rainforest in the background and a lake that guards the entire right side of the hole. A well-positioned tee shot is required at this long and undulating green to avoid any three putts.
Lakes #4 is a 455-yard Par 4 with water all along the right side that wraps around the green with a predominant left to right wind. Be sure to favor the left side of the fairway in order to have a better angle at the green which is well guarded by bunkers on the right side. The approach shot cannot be long because it will find the water hazard behind the green.
The Ocean
The Ocean Nine presents prevailing ocean breezes that put your shot selection at a premium. You’ll definitely enjoy hole #3 that plays towards the Atlantic Ocean and hole #7 where your tee shot is over water and a rock wall.
Ocean #3 is a 413-yard Par 4 that plays towards the Atlantic Ocean. On the tee shot you should favor the right side of the fairway since the predominant wind on that hole is right to left. You must try to play a low shot into this green to avoid the strong wind coming off the ocean, a high flying approach shot could find the 8th green of the palms given this a double green, and this would mean a guaranteed three putt.
Ocean #7 is a 202-yard Par 3 over water and a rock wall to a well-protected green. The tee shot plays short due to the strong wind in your back, but the landing area is very narrow. In order for the tee shot to hold the green it must land on the front. If the pin position is back left avoid going at the pin and play for the center of the green, this will increase your chances of making par.
The Mountain
The Mountain Nine offers a diverse landscape featuring elevated tee boxes, exquisite panoramic views of El Yunque and the Atlantic Ocean, and imaginative hole designs that take advantage of the unique surroundings and typography at every bend. Mountain #5 is a favorite as it’s one of the most challenging holes on the island.
Mountain #5 is a 405-yard Par 4 that demands a very accurate driver to an elevated fairway. If you manage to keep the tee shot in the middle of the fairway you will have an elevation change of about 40 feet for your second shot with a view of the Atlantic Ocean on your back and the El Yunque rainforest to your right. Once again your approach will require a lot of precision as the green is well guarded by water at both sides. Even though the shot to the green is downhill you must be careful not to under club yourself, given that you will have the wind in your face.
The Palms
The Palms Nine winds its way through a forest of palm trees creating one of the Caribbean’s most unique and spectacular golf settings. A round in the Palms is the vacation escape you’re looking for with the exception of Palms #4.
Palms #4 is a very demanding par 3 that plays 220 yards from the back tee. The green is guarded by a creek that runs in front of it and to the right. Be sure to take an extra club since the predominant wind is in your face and the tee shot requires a forced carry of about 205 yards. In addition you should favor the left part of the green given there is no room for mistakes to the right.
All of Coco Beach's Nines feature seashore paspalum fairways and seadwarf
paspalum greens.
